Robert, I can’t believe I didn’t reply! Great to hear your bow was a success! There is something very underestimated about how it feels to fire a bow you have made. This weapon is simple, but incredibly effective. Sending the arrow downrange in the first clean release is an awesome experience (as you have attested). Congrats!

I am not an expert in various types of wood to use, but an excerpt from the Traditional Bowyer’s Bible said that the Blackfoot indians (Canada through Montana) would use Cedar, Ash, and Choke Cherry. Sounds like you’re good to go. Let me know how she shoots.

thank you for the tutorial,it was most informative.i had just finished a long bow,the tillering is not perfect but so close you really have to look.i have not shot it yet,but it gives me a 28inche pull nice and smooth.i am so inlove with the bow,had no idea it would be like this i will be putting down a buck .

Certainly. If you get the chance, try picking up one of those books (or something comparable) and trying to build a bow. Its interesting work. I have 3 of the Tradtional Bowyer’s Bibles, and a book called “The History of the Longbow”. Enjoy!
